OEM Pipette Tip Procurement Guide

Pipettes are essential laboratory instruments in biological research, and their accessory, the OEM pipette tip, is used in large quantities during experiments. Most pipette tips on the market are made of polypropylene plastic. However, even though they are made of the same material, there can be significant differences in quality: high-quality pipette tips are generally made from virgin polypropylene, while cheaper tips may be made from recycled polypropylene.

Characteristics of OEM Pipette Tips

Compatibility with Pipettes

Easy to load and ensure a tight seal.

No Defects

The shape and surface of the pipette tip should be flawless, ensuring pipetting accuracy.

Pure Raw Materials Without Additives

To avoid the impact of leachables on experimental results.

Clean and Free from Biological Contamination

Precision pipette tips should be free from biological contamination threats and be manufactured and packaged in an ultra-clean environment.

Compliance with Quality Standards

Pipette tips from reputable pipette tips manufacturer will come with a certificate in the packaging that verifies which tests were conducted on the product and the methods used, ensuring that any potential contamination is below specific detection limits.

Considerations for OEM Pipette Tips

Poor Quality Raw Materials

Tips that are not made from 100% pure polypropylene, containing impurities (such as trace metals, Bisphenol A, etc.), and additives can result in tips that are overly transparent, have thick, non-elastic walls, and can release substances that affect experimental results.

Inferior Manufacturing Process

Inconsistent sizing can lead to poor sealing consistency, especially for multichannel pipettes, resulting in uneven liquid levels and compromised accuracy.

Low-Quality Tips

Internal surfaces that are not smooth, with flow marks, notches, or burrs at the tip, can cause significant liquid retention and inaccurate dispensing.

How to Select OEM Pipette Tips

Material

  • Coloring Materials: Commonly known as blue tips (1000 µL) and yellow tips (200 µL), these contain corresponding coloring materials mixed with polypropylene.

  • Release Agents: Help the tips detach quickly from the mold after forming. However, the more additives there are, the higher the likelihood of unwanted chemical reactions during pipetting. Therefore, it's better to avoid additives.

Packaging

The main packaging formats for pipette tips are bagged and boxed.

In more developed markets, boxed tips are the majority. Bagged tips are packaged in plastic resealable bags, usually with 500 or 1000 tips per bag. Many users buy bagged tips and manually place them into tip boxes.

Additionally, a new packaging format called refill packaging has emerged in recent years. This format requires less storage space and significantly reduces plastic use, thus achieving environmental protection goals.
